Institute for Ministry With Youth and Young Adults
An interest in studying the amazing world of youth and young
adults can start in a dozen different ways.
For some students, the interest comes from their calling to be a youth
pastor or college chaplain. But
equally, others have a desire to see young people included in all aspects of
church life... or a concern for evangelism, conversion and baptism... or perhaps academic
interest in the fields of psychology and spirituality for youth... or all of the above!
Some of our students focus on youth and theology as a window into seeing how the gospel meets contemporary culture. Others are looking for insight into emerging church practices, or ways that historic practices can speak to young people today. And yet others want to learn how to mentor youth in becoming lifelong disciples of Jesus.
Here at Bethany, you will find professors and colleagues who
share these interests--and who want to explore them with you, in ways that draw
upon biblical insights, empirical research, theological models and practical
experience.
Bethany provides powerful preparation for the challenges and joys you will face in youth and young adult ministry.
Putting it into Practice
Inaugurated in 2000, the Institute for Ministry With Youth and Young Adults promotes research and training for leadership in the field of Youth and Young Adults. By connecting with both contemporary academic scholarship and the life of local congregations, the Institute seeks to contribute to more effective youth and young adult ministries.
The Director of the Institute works with an advisory committee that includes people who are currently engaged in ministry with youth and young adults. Our connections with the Church of the Brethren enhance the program through the Institute's cooperation with the Youth and Young Adult Office of the Church of the Brethren Mission and Ministry Board. In addition, the Institute offers seminars and workshops in continuing education for pastors and lay leaders.
